My parents renovated their kitchen and I kept their 36" x 60" kitchen island counter top. It is pretty heavy but it seems plausible that I could be able to mount it to a wall in my apartment and turn it into a bar/breakfast bar. Where can I find L brackets or other mounts that can be used to hold this thing up? I am less concerned with hiding the mounts and/or supports and more concerned with saving money and providing ample support.
Its a great thing if you are renovating your kitchen then i would like to suggest some important tips and they will help you a lot to find your problem.

This week we are discussing how you can double your savings on a refinance. The bulk of my mortgage business is helping my Realtor partners and their clients purchase homes so many of my topics are geared toward streamlining that process. With rates as low as they are now I wanted to fill you all in on some tips to get the most out of the market because if you refi smart it may be the last refi you ever need to do.
The piece we are referencing this week has to do with those borrowers who are refinancing a home that currently carries mortgage insurance. This is every FHA loan and any Conventional loan that was originated with a loan to value ratio of more than 80%. With the rise in sales prices that we have experienced lately many of these borrowers with mortgage insurance actually have equity in their property such that they can reduce or eliminate the mortgage insurance altogether. For these people this could double the savings that they will experience on a monthly basis and simply makes a good refinance into a great one.
Don’t feel left out if you don’t have mortgage insurance and even if you are still underwater as the current lending environment likely has some option for you that can help you save a substantial amount of money over your current loan. VA loans can be refinanced with the IRRRL loan using very limited documentation, underwater conventional loans are relatively easy now with HARP 2.0, and FHA loans that are still underwater can take advantage of the FHA streamline refinance with no appraisal. Regardless of the loan program or the mortgage insurance situation nearly every mortgage in the valley could see a drastic savings in this market.
For my Realtor partners this is another great time to call your past clients and help them gauge their equity position so that they can be informed when they call a lender to start their refinance. What better way is there to catch back up with them then to help them understand that they can not only lower their rate to unheard of lows but that they may be able to eliminate their mortgage insurance at the same time. Share this news with them and use it as another opportunity to ask them if they know of anyone in their lives that could use your services.

How would I find a place to live in Grand Rapids, MI for only seven weeks?
I’ve been offered a pretty-nice, temporary job teaching summer school near Grand Rapids, but the job only lasts seven weeks (so, I suppose I would "realistically" want to stay there for eight). I know a ton of people in the area, but none seem willing to give up their couches for 7 weeks straight, or anything (I can’t blame them, either).
The job is really only 4 days per week, but the pay for it is pretty decent (for what it is), and I would definitely enjoy teaching the program they’re doing this time around. That doesn’t mean it’s "great", so from the looks of things, most month-to-month rental places would be out of my budget. I’m looking for something as cheap as I can find, really.
Some hotels might have special deals for long-term stays like this, but for seven weeks, I’d really prefer somewhere I’d have at least a minimal kitchen, or something. So, I don’t know where to start looking.
Any tips?
Looked up extended stay hotels, and the nearest one is 40+ miles from where I’d be working. Which isn’t…terrible? But, in addition, their cheapest room would be $45/night. Which would round out to half of my income from this job. That doesn’t leave a whole lot for gas, and food, and…anything else. Income-wise, I’m taking a hit if I work this job, anyway, since I can stay where I am and work three part-time jobs and make twice as much money, but there aren’t any teaching jobs in the area, and I need relevant experience.
Also: U.S. Citizen, former student teacher in the area (which is why I’m being offered the position so readily).
The income is good "for what it is"; it’s not fantastic, overall, because the hours just aren’t really there (4 days/week, ~5 hours/day, 7 weeks), and since it’s a short-term job, I wouldn’t really be able to take another job elsewhere to supplement the income. It seems to be the best choice available to me for this summer, though, that will give me some relevant "field" experience as a teacher, so I’m willing to explore it, so long as I can find a place to live for that short a period of time.
Extended stay hotels have small kitchens and a living area.
also check into any four year colleges that are near by. many students leave for the summer and need to sub let their apartments/rooms in a house. (most rent goes from August to August around college campuses)
